What Is A Crepe?

A crêpe or crepe (pronounced: krayp) is a type of very thin pancake, usually made from wheat flour. It originates from France and is considered a French national dish.

Crepes are made by pouring a thin liquid batter onto a hot frying pan or a flat circular hot plate, with just a little bit of butter on the surface of the pan. The fillings are then placed onto the cooked crepe, and is rolled up into a cone shape.

Crepes are amazingly versatile - you can put any type of filling in them! When served with meat or vegetables, they can be eaten for lunch or dinner; when served sweet with fruits or syrup, they can be eaten as dessert.

The type of fillings for crepes are endless! Common savoury fillings include cheese, ham, spinach, eggs, mushrooms, chicken, and other meat products. Sweet toppings on the other hand include sugar, maple syrup, whipped cream, sliced fruits, jam, peanut butter, and chocolate. However, you can let your imagination go wild when it comes to crepes. You can even try putting Milo powder or gummy bears. Get creative and let your taste buds tell you what's good!
